Meet Our Group Leaders


Learn more about our great Instructors/Group Leaders who will be leading us in our World Record Attempt. We are truly thankful for everyone who will be helping lead this endeavor and sharing their talents/time. This record attempt would not be possible without you. Each day, we will be updating this page with profiles, so check back often to see your favorite instructor.

Kari Merrill

Ms. Merrill has been active in the fitness industry for over 14 years, teaches a wide variety of classes, and is a certified Personal Trainer. Because of her hard work and passion, she was named the 2012 EAS Group Fitness Instructor of the Year. In her own words: "My passion and drive for the fitness world caused me to take a leap of faith and turn Fitness my full time gig.  I am the the Group Fitness Director at Western Racquet and Fitness Club.  I have been teaching Zumba since 2008.  What I love most about Zumba is that it draws people into the door and is a great start to a healthier lifestyle.  I love the energy Zumba creates and giving people not only a great workout but a FUN one as well.  I love when people ENJOY the process of getting fit.   Who needs short cuts when exercise can be SO FUN.  Zumba has created a program that inspires, motivates, and turns a bad day into fantastic.  I am so excited to be a part of this amazing event!" Thank you for helping promote healthy active lifestyles in our communities.

 

Frank and Angela Gillitzer

Both Frank Gillitzer and Angela Gillitzer, owners of Absolute Danz, have a long history in dance and fitness. Mr. Gillitzer began to dance at the age of 7. He was the United States Amateur Male Champion in American Smooth and International Standard and Latin in 1998. When he turned professional in 1999, he continued his national success, becoming the United States Sixth Top Teacher in 2002. He also was named the Dancer's Cup Circuit Top Teacher in 2003. Ms. Gillitzer has been dancing since the age of 3 and studied ballet, jazz, and tap for 15 years. She performed at two half-time championship football games, the Citrus Bowl in 1998 and the Outback Bowl in 1999. She also danced with the Wisconsin Dance Team that performed at Walt Disney World in 2001. In 2004, Angela began to focus on ballroom dance and began to compete in 2007 where she has consistently placed within the top six competitors in each competition she has entered. Both are certified Zumba Instructors.

Voted "Best of the Valley" in 2009 and 2010, they also taught at the 2011 World Zumba instructor conference a crossover ballroom/Zumba class. In their own words: "We want people to want to work out, to love working out, to get hooked. By integrating Zumba into everyday life individuals may achieve long term benefits while experiencing an absolute blast in one exhilarating hour of caloric burning, heart racing, muscle pumping, body energizing movements meant to engage and captivate for life!"

 

Jen Berres 

Ms. Berres has been dancing for 27 years and heads up Jenstar Yoga and Dance. In her own words: "I love Zumba because it's a cardio blast while jamming out to great tunes. The time goes by quick and I don't feel like I am working out. Ms. Berres takes Zumba classes at Western Racquet and Fitness and is excited to be part of this epic event.

 

Lisa Kucik 

Ms. Kucik was one of our first instructors to volunteer for our record breaking attempt. With over 20 years of dance experience, she has been a Zumba instructor for the past year and a half and teaches classes in the Greater Milwaukee Area. In her own words: "I am VERY excited about this event and will hopefully get many people from the Milwaukee area up to Green Bay for the afternoon!"

Kristin Bowen

Ms. Bowen has been an instructor for 3 years and loves Zumba. In her own words: "My favorite thing about Zumba is you never feel like your exercising because it's so much fun. I just lose myself in the music. The participants' energy is another thing I absolutely love! They motivate me! I can't pick a favorite song because there are too many!" Ms. Bowen teaches at a number of clubs in the Southeast Wisconsin area including the YMCA.
