July 19 - 2013 - City of Green Bay Tailgate Party - September 14th

The City of Green Bay will be hopping on Saturday, Sept 14th! In addition to our World Record Zumba attempt, we will also be hosting a downtown "Tailgate Party" in preparation for the Green Bay home opener. A full schedule and details are still in the works, but we are hoping to have metro busses available from the downtown area to Lambeau field before and after the record attempt. This will help connect us to some of the downtown activities as well as alleviate some parking congestion. Am that we will be offering so many activities the day of the event and will pass on information as it becomes available.

July 17 - 2013 - Absolute Danz

We are pleased to have Absolute Danz and their owners Frank and Angela Gillitzer as one of our Community Partners. In their own words: "We want people to want to work out, to love working out, to get hooked. By integrating Zumba into everyday life individuals may achieve long term benefits while experiencing an absolute blast in one exhilarating hour of caloric burning, heart racing, muscle pumping, body energizing movements meant to engage and captivate for life!". Excited to have people on board who share our passion for passion for fitness and want to see active communities. Absolute Danz was named "Best of the Bay" in 2009 and 2010 and taught at the 2011 World Zumba instructor conference a crossover ballroom/Zumba class.

July 17 - 2013 - Planning Meeting

Had a great meeting this afternoon with the folks from LIVE 54218, Green Bay Current - The Young Professionals Organization, Brown County Teen Leadership, The Green Bay Park and Rec Department, the YMCA, and Western Racquet and Fitness (whew...a lot of us at that table). Really appreciate everyone coming together to work on this great project and volunteer their time for a healthier community. It is now official that we will be calling the event "Zumba Day by the Bay". We know that many of you have been asking for flyers and handouts and we hope to have those within a couple weeks. We will be handing them out as well as posting a PDF that you can print out on your own. Again, we really want to help spread the word about this, so we want to offer as many tools as possible to reach our goal of 10,000. We are also excited to be connecting this event to the City Deck Tailgate party in downtown Green Bay. Since this is the Green Bay home opener, we are excited to be combining Zumba with the team you love. A lot of positives from this meeting and looking forward to sharing more details as they come.

July 12 - 2013 - Names?

While we like the name "Greater Green Bay Area - World Record Zumba Class", we have been tossing around the idea of a slightly shorter/catchier name. Some suggestions have been: Zumba Day and Zumba By The Bay

If you or your friends have any suggestions or thoughts on a name, please contact me at bdanzinger@hotmail.com

July 11 - 2013 - 300!

We still have a long way to go to reach 10,000, but I was very impressed at the fact that we have 300 people already set to go for our World Record Attempt in the first 24 hours. Also, the number 300 has special meaning to me since I like the movie "300" so much. I know, kind of geeky, but happy to see people signing up and excited for the big day.

July 11 - 2013 - Looking for Instructors

We would really like to thank everyone who has shared the Facebook event and already have people signing up. We made a post on the Facebook event page, but we are still looking for Instructors/Group Leaders to help lead a group of 100 participants. Choreography and music will be provided and we are planning on a "test run" prior to the big day. lso, all Instructors/Group Leaders will be specially recognized as instructors at the event...not just as a participant. The City of Green Bay will also have a special recognition for all Instructors/Group Leaders and we will be hosting a post-event party that you are welcome to attend. Please note that the City of Green Bay is the lead organization on this, so you will not have to worry about being associated with a rival gym or studio. This is a community and grass roots driven effort. However, at the event you are more than welcome to wear your studio's colors and logos with pride as we want to promote the numerous Zumba options that people have in the area. If interested in being an Instructor/Group Leader, please zip me an email at bdanzinger@hotmail.com with your name, studio, if you are ZIN licensed, and the subject line "Zumba World Record". Special thanks already to all of the volunteers who have offered to lead a group!

July 10 - 2013 - The Announcement

After much investment in time and planning, am excited to finally make a major announcement this afternoon that I hope will have a long term positive impact to the community. While today is just the announcement of this endeavor, I would like to thank everyone for their support, ideas, and willingness to share in this vision since last November. At our Press conference at historic Lambeau Field, we shared our vision to break the Guinness World Record for largest Zumba class. The record attempt will be made on September 14th, 2013, 2:00 pm, at historic Lambeau Field in Green Bay, WI - the Saturday before Green Bay’s home opener. The attempt is aiming to have 10,000 participants and will be made in the Lambeau Field parking lot. The Zumba© Class will be 31 minutes long and will be led by Zumba© Certified Instructor Kari Merrill along with 100 other instructors and group leaders.

People have asked, "why do this?" or "what is the point of making a record breaking attempt?". For us, the motivation for this attempt was to help promote healthy and active lifestyles to the Greater Green Bay area and to create an event that brought the community together in a celebration of exercise. The Green Bay area already has some great events that promote active lifestyles like the Bellin Run, Green Bay Marathon, the Door County 50, and the Shore to Shore Bike Ride. These are all extraordinary events and we are proud to see their success in the community as they help inspire people to be active and healthy. There are some great stories of people who have used these events to make some positive life changes, to help overcome a loss/tragedy, or to better connect with friends/family. These are all great stories and we hope this event adds to those stories.

We picked Zumba because it potentially reaches a group of people that maybe do not currently participate in some of the other great events in our area and is also appropriate for all skill levels. On top of that, Zumba really demonstrates the social and fun aspects of exercise. If you have never been to a Zumba class or met Zumba people, they are some of the most welcoming, positive, and energetic people you will ever meet. The energy is almost infectious and reminds me of the same energy I feel from my fellow participants at a marathon, triathlon, or team sport. Zumba is also available at a number of great heath clubs and studios in the area, so it is pretty accessible for everyone. Because we not only want people to participate in this event (and hopefully break a record), we also hope they adopt a lifestyle of exercise in their daily lives - and Zumba is one option for doing that. Again, we realize that w are not going to change the entire community overnight, but if we can inspire a few people to live healthier and more active lives...to be around longer for their families...and to maybe share their passion of exercise with others...then we will consider this event a success, regardless of the final number.
